Cylinder 1 Vase

Numbered like a study rather than a product, this is the plainest shape in the whole vase vocabulary: straight sides, no waist, no flare at the lip, no decorative foot. Everything rests on proportion. The ratio of height to width is the only real decision the design makes, and it makes it without hedging. Plain forms earn their keep by not competing. On a shelf of busier objects a clean cylinder gives the eye somewhere to rest, and printed at two or three different scales it stops being one vase and becomes a set. It takes dried grasses and single stems well, since the straight wall keeps everything standing upright instead of splaying outwards. It is also a sensible starting point if you are building a collection of printed vessels, giving you an unfussy baseline to judge every more elaborate silhouette against.
