Faceted Vase

Low-poly geometry applied to one of the oldest shapes in decorative objects. The body is broken into flat planes meeting at hard edges, so the silhouette shifts as you walk past it and each panel catches the light on its own terms instead of wrapping smoothly the way a turned curve would. A vessel built this way suits a modern room in a way an ornate one does not. It reads as sculpture first and container second, and it looks deliberate standing empty. Dried stems, pampas, seed heads and bare twigs all sit well against angular geometry, and the hard edges keep the arrangement from looking fussy. One file, and a subject that rewards being made more than once — two or three at different heights, grouped along a mantelpiece or a wide windowsill, do considerably more work than a single piece standing alone.
