Glass 7 Vase

The seventh entry in a run of vessels that take their cues from blown glass — a body that swells and then draws in at the neck, with the sense of a shape pulled while soft rather than carved from a block. The proportions carry the whole thing; it is a silhouette piece first and foremost. It belongs where a bit of decorative pottery would go: a mantelpiece, a windowsill, the gap between books on a shelf, a console table by the front door. Dried stems, seed heads and grasses suit the neck, and it reads perfectly well on its own as a sculptural object. Scale is worth playing with, since the same outline works as a modest accent on a desk or considerably larger as a floor-standing piece — the advantage of owning the file rather than the finished object.
