Multi Face Vase

Faces rise out of the surface and repeat around the form, so that whichever way you turn it, someone is looking back. It draws on a long tradition of face vessels — the moulded face jugs of folk ceramics, the mask pottery of the classical world — and reworks that tradition as a piece of modern sculptural decor rather than a curio. That makes it a decorative object first and a container second. It suits a mantelpiece, a console table or a shelf of odd, characterful things, and it takes dried stems, grasses or pampas if you want something standing in it. Because the faces carry the design entirely, nothing else needs adding for it to look finished — one form, one file, and a great deal of presence for a single shelf piece.
