Sad Woman Vase

Part vessel, part sculpture, this vase is modelled as the face and head of a woman wearing a downturned, sorrowful expression. It belongs to the popular run of face vases, pieces where the container itself becomes a portrait, and here the mood is deliberately melancholic, the features soft and pensive rather than serene. The result is a decorative object with real presence, one that reads as a small sculpture whether or not anything goes inside it.
