Transforming Rope Vase

Rope is a good motif for a vase because it is all repetition and twist, and this design takes the idea past a plain cabled surface. The strands shift as they climb, so the profile at the foot is not the profile at the lip, and turning it on a shelf makes the pattern appear to reorganise itself. The result is a sculptural object first and a container second. It sits well on a mantelpiece, a hallway table or a windowsill, with dried stems, wheat, teasels or pampas in it — or with nothing in it at all, which is how a good many decorative vases are actually used. A sensible choice if you want one piece of decor that reads as designed rather than downloaded, and an obvious candidate for printing at a couple of different sizes to stand as a group.
