Unicorn Vase

Part ornament, part vessel. The unicorn motif is worked into the body of the vase itself, so the piece reads as a small sculpture first and a container second, which is why it tends to end up somewhere it will be looked at rather than somewhere it will be filled. Dried stems are its natural companion: bleached grasses, preserved eucalyptus, a bundle of pampas, or the paper stems that never need any attention at all. Left completely empty it still holds its own as an object, which is more than most vases manage. It lands squarely in the territory of children's bedrooms, nurseries and any corner of a house that has already committed to a bit of whimsy, and it makes an easy gift for the unicorn-inclined. Being a file rather than a shop-bought ornament, it can also be made again if it ever takes a knock off the shelf.
