Every printer ends up with a shelf of these — the plain, well-proportioned vessels that carry a room without asking for attention. This is one of them: a straight-sided decorative vase with a gently tapering profile, the sort of shape that reads as thrown ceramic once it is off the bed and sitting on a windowsill or a mantelpiece. It works hardest as a dry arrangement. Pampas, dried grasses, seed heads and bare twigs all suit a form this restrained, and a cluster of two or three run off at different scales makes a considered group on a sideboard.
