Venus Aphrodite Vases

The classical Venus is one of the most copied figures in Western art, and these vessels borrow her outline directly. The tilted hip, the turned shoulder and the long fall of the torso are reworked into a standing vase form, so what you get is the goddess of the museum hall reduced to a silhouette for a shelf. The appeal is that it reads twice over. From across a room it registers as sculpture; up close it is plainly a vase. That suits a mantelpiece, a hallway console or the gap on a bookcase that wants something with more presence than a plain cylinder, and it sits comfortably alongside plaster busts, prints and other classical-revival decor. This one comes as a short set rather than a single model, so the figure can be repeated along a shelf. Dried stems, grasses or pampas suit the shape better than anything fussy.
