Frequently asked questions
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. The lithophane is generated entirely in your browser — your photo never leaves your device.
What is a lithophane?
A lithophane is a thin 3D print where material thickness varies with image brightness. Held against a light source, the photo appears in smooth grayscale — like magic, but physics.
What are the best print settings for lithophanes?
Print vertically (standing up) in white PLA, 0.12–0.16mm layers, 100% infill, slow speed (~40mm/s). Vertical printing gives much sharper detail than printing flat.
What photos work best?
High-contrast photos with a clear subject work best. Portraits, pets, and landscapes with strong lighting all turn out great. Very dark or busy photos lose detail.
