Key Doors

A key and a door belong together, so making the fob itself a little door is the kind of idea that needs no explaining. This is a miniature panelled door rendered as a keyring charm — frame, panelling and all, shrunk down to something that lives on a split ring alongside the keys themselves. It works hardest as a gift with an occasion attached. A first flat, a new house, a spare set handed to someone you trust: the object says what the moment is without anybody having to write a card. Print a batch and you have covered a year of housewarmings. Keychains are also where most people start when they want something small off the printer, and a door carries enough architectural relief to stay interesting at that scale without turning fiddly. One file, one piece, and a shape that is still readable at fob size.
