Reindeer Decal

Antlers, a raised foreleg and a long tapering muzzle. The reindeer is one of those Christmas shapes that works entirely in outline, which is why it lands on wrapping paper, shop windows and biscuit tins every December without anyone needing it explained. This is that motif drawn flat for the baking bench, festive kit that comes out of the cupboard alongside the icing bags. Gingerbread is the traditional partner, though sugar biscuits and shortbread take a reindeer perfectly well, and the shape is broad and forgiving enough that children can decorate one without much supervision. Flat festive motifs also get pressed into service well beyond baking, turning up as gift tags, advent decorations and name markers down the length of the Christmas table. A single file, packed away in January and out again the following advent.
