Cat Peeking Bowl

The dish is plain and shallow with sloping sides, and the cat is worked into its edge rather than sat on top of it. A flat head rises straight out of the near rim, ears pricked, with the eyes and the inner triangles of both ears cut clean through the panel. Below them sits a small recessed nose, and three whiskers to each side are laid on as raised strokes that carry on round the curve of the bowl wall - the one place where the flat drawing wraps onto the round form. At the back, a tail lifts off the far rim in the same flat stock and hooks over at the tip. Inside, nothing at all: no relief, no lettering, just an open dish with a cartoon cat clamped round the outside.
