Gothic Valentine's territory. A lidded trinket box worked into the form of a heart, with skeletal detailing running across it so the piece lands somewhere between a love token and a memento mori. It belongs to the older tradition of anatomical hearts and bone ornament rather than the flat cartoon heart on a card. As a household object it does the ordinary work of any small box — rings, guitar picks, the loose change that collects by the front door, earrings that never make it back to the jewellery stand — while looking considerably stranger than the ceramic dish it replaces.
