Every workshop desk ends up with a mug full of biros, and this swaps the mug for an in-joke. The design takes the business end of an FDM machine — the heater block and nozzle assembly that does the actual melting — and scales it up until it can stand on a desk and hold pens instead of plastic. It works as an object first and a gag second, which is why it tends to survive on a shelf rather than being made once and forgotten. Anyone who has changed a nozzle at eleven at night, or spent an evening picking a cold blob off a heater block, will read the silhouette straight away. It comes as a multi-part set, and it belongs on the corner of a maker's bench, on an office desk, or wrapped up for someone whose printer runs more hours than their kettle.
