Mechanical Rook Box Alternate

Chess pieces make good containers because the shapes already read as objects, and the rook — squat tower body, castellated crown — is the obvious candidate. This is an alternate take on that idea, dressed in mechanical detailing: cogwheels, rivet lines and panelled plating worked into the tower so it looks assembled rather than carved. On a desk or a shelf it serves as a small box for rings, dice, guitar picks, cufflinks or the loose change that otherwise migrates across a worktop. It suits steampunk and industrial interiors, chess players, and anybody who would rather their storage sat out in the open than vanished into a drawer.
