Description
The dog tag left the army a long time ago. Since the nineties it has been a fixture of streetwear, band merchandise and every jewellery counter aimed at teenagers, and this is that version of it: a squared plate rather than the softened oval of the issue tag, with heavy, blocky lettering carrying the whole of the design. The square treatment gives it a more graphic, contemporary look than the standard rounded shape, sitting closer to a designer pendant than to army surplus. Worn on a chain it reads as an everyday accessory, and the flat face makes it an obvious starting point for personalisation, whether that is a name, a date, initials or a short line of text. Beyond jewellery it has a life as luggage identification, a bag charm, a keyring fob or a small engraved gift. Plain objects like this are the ones that end up actually being used.
