Description
The third design in a run of rings drawn from the Nine of Tolkien's legendarium: the bands given to mortal kings, worn until the wearers faded out of the waking world altogether. It is a brooding piece rather than a pretty one, with the angular, slightly funereal weight that belongs to the wraiths rather than to anything Elven, and it has genuine presence on a hand. That makes it a costume and collector item first. It goes to conventions, screening nights and Halloween, or it sits on a shelf beside the books as an object rather than being worn at all. Jewellers and casters will also recognise it for what it is, since a printed pattern is the usual first step on the road to a piece in metal, and a design this graphic survives the journey well.
