Description
Owls have been worked into jewellery since antiquity, and the reason is the face: two enormous forward-set eyes and a blunt beak make a motif that stays legible even shrunk down to something a finger can carry. This ring is built around exactly that, a statement piece where the bird sits at the crown of the band and does the talking. It belongs to the costume end of jewellery rather than the fine end, which is where printed rings tend to live most comfortably. Owls carry a lot of easy symbolism too, wisdom and night and quiet watchfulness, so the piece works as a gift for a reader, a birdwatcher or anyone who has been collecting owls since childhood. Worn on its own it is enough of a shape to carry a plain outfit.
