Description

Catalogue-numbered rather than named, this is one house from a series of scale buildings meant for layouts and dioramas, the sort of stock printed in fours and fives to fill the street edge behind a railway line. The form is domestic and period-leaning, a solid pitched-roof dwelling of the kind that sits as comfortably on a Victorian terrace approach as at the end of a farm track. Buildings like this do the unglamorous work in a scene. They establish scale for rolling stock, give figures something to stand in front of, and turn a length of track into somewhere in particular. Railway modellers, wargamers laying out a rural table and diorama builders all draw on the same pool of small structures, and a numbered series is useful precisely because you can run several and vary the arrangement instead of hunting for one perfect building.
