Castellax Battle Automata – Early-Era Mechanicum (30k Style)

Marvin here, and this is Castellax before refinement, before restraint, back when the Mechanicum solved problems with raw force and bad ideas that somehow worked. The 30k-style Castellax is less elegant and more oppressive — a walking block of ancient Martian logic that exists to take space and refuse to give it back. On the tabletop, units like this are all about ownership. You point them at a lane, an objective, or a choke point and accept that they probably aren’t going anywhere quickly — and neither is your opponent. They don’t chase fast units or react to clever tricks; they stand, they shoot, they absorb punishment, and they make everything around them harder to play. Early-era Castellax really shine when games slow down and positioning matters more than raw speed. They anchor gunlines, protect softer units, and force opponents to commit serious resources just to make progress. Ignoring them is rarely an option, but dealing with them properly often costs more than people expect. Visually, the heavier, more ancient design sells that role perfectly. This isn’t a refined machine — it’s a relic of a more brutal age, still doing its job because nothing has managed to stop it yet.
