Company Ancient Banner

Every Space Marine company keeps one warrior whose job is to be seen. The Ancient carries the company standard into battle, an honour handed to a long-serving veteran because the banner is treated as the company's memory made portable, and losing it is close to unthinkable. On the table that translates into a rallying point: the model the rest of the line dresses on, planted on an objective while everything else manoeuvres around it. It is also a gift to a painter, since a banner is a flat canvas in the middle of an army made entirely of curves and rivets, and it is one of the few places on a grimdark force where freehand work genuinely shows. Sculpted at tabletop wargaming scale as a character model, it works as a command squad addition, a centrepiece for a display base, or a standard bearer for a force otherwise built from another manufacturer's plastics.
