Swapping arms is the single change that does most to break up a squad. Repositioned weapons, different poses and varied gear turn ten identical bodies into ten soldiers who look like they were fighting the same battle from different angles. Converters building a themed force, or anyone trying to make a proxy read as a distinct chapter, will get more out of a bits pack than another whole miniature.
