Description

Muichiro's blade — snap it shut, snap it open, no glue in sight. Shown here in silhouette, the model is a katana standing point-up in its own display cradle. The tall blade reads as a stack of stepped segments — the tell-tale sign of a print-in-place collapsing sword that telescopes down into itself and extends back out with a satisfying click. It plants into a flat cross-shaped stand with slotted tabs at each foot, so the finished sword stays upright on a shelf or desk between wears. This is a cosplay and display prop aimed at anime fans recreating Muichiro's Nichirin katana: light enough to carry on a con floor, sturdy enough to pose for photos, and mechanical enough to be a fidget-worthy conversation piece on its own. Print notes: • The main file prints in place with the collapsing joints already assembled, so it needs zero supports on the blade — just a clean first layer and well-tuned clearances; a test-fit blade section is included to dial in your printer's tolerances before committing to the full length. • Print in PLA or PETG for a rigid blade; PETG adds a little toughness if it will be handled a lot. • Run a slightly slower first few layers so the segments release cleanly, then work the joints gently on the first collapse. • Print the blade upright for strength; sand the seam lightly, then prime and paint the edge silver with a coloured hilt to match the character.
