Description
Moscow's most recognisable skyline, shrunk to your desktop. This is a detailed scale model of Saint Basil's Cathedral, the cluster of onion domes, tent-roofed spires and cross-topped cupolas that rises over Red Square. The render shows the whole ensemble: a tall central tent spire crowned with a cross, ringed by satellite towers each capped with its own bulbous, faceted or spiral-ribbed dome, all sitting on an arcaded stone base with stairs, galleries and pitched porch roofs. It makes a striking architectural display piece, a landmark for a model railway or wargaming board, an educational classroom model, or a centrepiece for anyone who loves Russian church architecture. Paint it in the cathedral's real candy-coloured domes for maximum impact, or leave it as clean white architect's-model stone. Print notes • This is a mesh with lots of fine spires, crosses and dome ribs; resin gives the sharpest result, but a 0.12mm FDM print handles the domes well if you scale it up. • Print domes and the central spire upright; the onion curves are self-supporting until their narrow necks, so add light supports only at the cross tips and overhanging eaves. • Consider printing the tall central tower separately from the base if your build plate is short, then pinning the two together. • The many crosses are delicate, so print them a touch thicker or add them as separate pins, and prime carefully so you don't snap them while handling.
