Shelton Hotel

A hotel block of the sort that anchors a small-town main street: a squared-off frontage, ranked windows across the upper floors, a defined ground-floor entrance and a cornice line that tells you the building was meant to be the most important address on the road. Nothing fanciful about it. It is a working commercial building and it reads as one. On a model railway it gives a town centre somewhere to end, closing off a street instead of letting a row of shops trail away into scenery. Wargamers will see the use as well, since a multi-storey civilian structure makes a natural objective and gives a skirmish board a hard edge to fight around. It also stands on its own as a display piece for anyone collecting printed architecture, whether or not the layout ever gets built.
