Marvin here, and this thing exists for one reason: making people nervous about the ground they’re standing on. The Terrax-style assault drill is the Mechanicus answer to slow armies — if you can’t walk there in time, come up from underneath instead. On the tabletop, drills like this are all about disruption. They let you bypass screens, ignore firing lanes, and suddenly put pressure exactly where your opponent assumed they were safe. Even before it appears, it shapes the game, forcing cautious positioning and defensive play that can cost opponents tempo and board control. Units delivered this way usually: Hit backfield or side objectives unexpectedly Break static gunlines Force opponents to keep units in reserve or spread thin Turn “safe” deployment zones into liabilities The drill itself doesn’t need to survive forever. Its value comes from timing and threat — showing up at the wrong moment for your opponent and opening space for the rest of your army to score. Very Martian. Very rude. Extremely effective.
