A long single-edged blade in the Japanese tradition sits at the centre of this prop: the gentle katana curve, a ridge running the length of the spine to the point, a guard at the hand and a bound grip behind it. Marked as the B variant of the design, it is drawn as a display and costume piece rather than anything pretending to be functional steel. Swords of this shape turn up everywhere in costume. Samurai and ronin outfits, anime and manga characters, wandering swordsmen and modern assassins all want one, as does anyone who fancies a blade on the wall without owning the real thing. It is a prop that rewards patience after the print. A sword convinces mostly through its outline and the smoothness of the blade, and both of those come from time spent sanding and finishing rather than anything the printer does.
