Collapsing Katana Shinobu

A PlayArt 3D collapsing katana that telescopes down into its own handle — pure fidget-and-pose fun. The photo shows the grip standing on its guard: a grey ribbed handle wrapped in bold orange diamonds that echo traditional tsuka-ito lacing, capped with a rounded orange pommel notched for a hanging cord. It rests on a four-lobed guard styled like a butterfly, with soft green heart-shaped inlays nodding to the insect-hashira theme behind the "Shinobu" name. The magic is in the mechanism: the blade prints in place as nested segments that slide out to full length and click back down into the hilt, so it stores small and deploys with a satisfying shove. Print notes • True print-in-place design — no supports, no glue; slice exactly as oriented and don't rescale, or the sliding tolerances break. • PLA or PETG at 0.16–0.2mm; a clean, calibrated first layer is what makes the segments free up. • Two-tone the grey/orange grip either by filament change at the wrap layers or a quick post-print paint. • Break the blade free gently on the first extension, then work it a few times to smooth the action.
