Description
On a katana, the guard is where the character lives. Blades are blades; the tsuba is the component that tells you whose sword you are looking at, which is why prop-makers fuss over it more than any other part of a build. Guarda is simply the Spanish for guard, and this one belongs to Shinobu, the insect-themed slayer from Demon Slayer, whose weapon is famous for working by poison rather than by cutting. It is aimed squarely at people already mid-build: a costume half finished, a blade in hand, a guard needed to pull the whole thing together. Prop-makers often gather several variants and decide between them once the piece is assembled and painted, which is why sword guards tend to be listed on their own. Costume and display use throughout, with the usual sense applied to carrying a prop sword in public.
