Description
A tsuba: the guard that separates blade from grip on a Japanese sword, and traditionally the one part of the mount a smith treated as jewellery rather than hardware. Historical examples were pierced, inlaid and signed by name. This one takes that pierced-disc tradition and pushes it towards a harder, more graphic pattern, so it reads as comfortably at home on an invented sci-fi blade as on an Edo-period one. The guard is the component that does most to set the character of a prop katana, and it is where costume builders usually want something with more presence than the plain disc a stock prop arrives with. Aimed at anime and film costume work, display sword mounts and prop makers who care about the silhouette at the point where the hands sit. A single-file model, finished the way any prop is: sanded, primed and taken through to whatever the build calls for.
