Description

On a Japanese sword the tsuba is the disc between blade and grip, and it does more visual work than any other fitting: it is the part an audience actually reads from a few paces away. This is a hand guard in that tradition, presented under the Monocor name, with a pin element forming part of the design. As a prop component it sits on the sword-building side of cosplay. Convention costumes, anime and samurai-film characters, stage and photography pieces, or a display sword that lives on a rack rather than being carried. Makers who have already settled on a blade profile and a handle wrap usually want a guard with more character than a plain oval, and that is the gap this fills. It reads perfectly well as a small object on its own too, for anyone who likes the ironwork of Japanese sword furniture.
