Anime swordsmiths work to different rules than historical ones. Blades in the genre are drawn slimmer, straighter and cleaner than anything a Japanese smith ever forged, and the swords carried by soul-reaping characters follow that convention closely. This is a prop version of one of them, the sword belonging to Rukia, made for costume work rather than the wall of a martial arts school. A printed blade does the job steel cannot. It can be carried into a convention hall, waved about in a group photograph and handed to a stranger for a picture without anyone reaching for a security radio, which is the entire reason cosplay props exist. Finished off and given a cord wrap at the grip, it holds up at the distance costume photography actually happens. Off duty it becomes display. Stood upright or laid flat, it anchors a shelf of anime memorabilia instead of sitting in a cupboard between conventions.
