Not every light in a room needs to be a feature. Some are there to fill a corner, mark the end of a shelf, or put a bit of glow near a bed without lighting the whole place up, and this is one of those: a compact, plainly shaped lamp meant to work as background rather than centrepiece. Small lamps end up in the places bigger fittings cannot go. A hallway console, a windowsill, the top of a bookcase, a bedside table already crowded with a book and a glass of water. Because the form is simple it sits happily beside furniture of almost any style, and it will not date the way a fussier shade eventually does. It is a sensible first lighting print for anyone who has not made one before, and an easy piece to repeat if you want a matching pair at either end of a room.
