Description

A turned column with a rope-twist shaft, capped and footed like a piece of classic joinery. Modelled here in solid blue, this is a decorative baluster-style spindle: a moulded, cushion-shaped capital at the top steps down through crisp collars into a slender central shaft wrapped in a shallow spiral flute, before flaring into a rounded ball-and-ring foot. The spiral twist is the signature detail — a barber-pole groove that runs the length of the shaft and catches the light beautifully once finished, giving an otherwise simple turned form a real sense of motion. Proportioned like a table or cabinet leg, a stair baluster, a bed-post section or a lamp stem, it is a versatile turned element for furniture makers and restorers. Print / cut notes • Print upright along its axis for the cleanest spiral, or split it and print in halves if bed height is limited, then glue and fill the seam. • Upright orientation may want a light support under the widest capital overhang; a brim helps the narrow foot stay put. • Because it is a body of revolution, it is ideal for a CNC lathe or 4th-axis rotary — turn the profile, then index the spiral flutes. • Sand the twist by hand with a folded strip of paper to keep the groove crisp, then prime and paint or stain to match existing woodwork.
