Cellular Lamp

The name comes from the skin. The shade is wrapped in an irregular mesh of cells, closer to honeycomb or the veining of a leaf than to any repeating machine pattern, and the openings shift in size across the surface so the form has movement in it even sitting unlit on a side table in the middle of the day. Organic-lattice lighting has become a small genre of its own in printed homeware, and this is a well-judged example: sculptural enough to be the interesting object in an otherwise plain corner, restrained enough not to argue with the rest of the room. It belongs on a bedside table, a hallway console or beside a low chair, and sits comfortably with mid-century and Scandinavian furniture, where one shape is expected to do the decorating.
