Chimney Front Lamp

Lighting that borrows its shape from something structural. The form is a chimney stack, squared at the foot and tapering as it rises, with the opening carried on the front face so the piece has a clear address in the room. During daylight hours it works as a bit of small architecture on a sideboard or hall table, which is more than most lamps manage when they are switched off. After dark the character changes. The glow is held at the sides and pushed forward, washing across whatever the lamp is standing against, so this is corner-of-the-room and bedside lighting rather than anything you would read by. It suits a house being furnished with made things rather than bought ones, and the plain, chunky masonry silhouette gets along with cottage, industrial and mid-century furniture equally well, which is not something you can say of most decorative lamps.
