Colombage Etage (3)

A single upright timber, the backbone of a miniature half-timbered house. "Colombage" is the French term for half-timbered framing, and this part is exactly that — a plain, tall rectangular post rendered as a solid deep-blue prism in the preview. There is no surface carving or joinery detail visible on the model; it is a clean structural beam, one storey ("étage") of an upright in a timbered façade, meant to slot alongside the horizontal rails and diagonal braces of a matching kit. Its value is dimensional accuracy rather than ornament: a straight, square-edged column to build the skeleton of a model cottage, dollhouse, or diorama wall. Model-makers and diorama builders will pair several of these with cross-members to lay out the classic exposed-frame grid, then infill the panels with plaster or textured board for that Norman/Alsatian storybook look. On its own it is simply a sturdy beam blank. Print notes • Geometry is a plain prism, so it prints trivially: stand it on end for the truest square section, or lay it flat to skip supports entirely. • 0.2 mm layers and 2–3 perimeters are plenty; infill can stay low (10–15%) since there is no fine detail to support. • Print a full set at once and keep them oriented the same way so face textures and shrinkage match across the frame. • Sand the long faces flat before gluing so the timbers sit flush against the infill panels.
