Corniche (1)

A single length of classical cornice moulding, modelled with a long, elegant sweep. Rendered here in glossy blue, the profile is a slim tapered strip that curves gently along its run and finishes at one end in a small scrolled ogee return, giving it a soft, hand-worked terminal rather than a blunt cut. The cross-section rounds over on the show face and flattens on the back for wall or frame mounting, the kind of trim you would find crowning a cabinet, edging a mirror, or capping a run of panelling. It suits model-makers, dolls-house builders, picture framers and anyone dressing miniature architecture or furniture, and it tiles end to end if you need a longer cornice than a single piece provides. Print notes • Lay it on the flat back face so the curved profile prints upward; that orientation needs little or no support and keeps the show surface smooth. • For very fine mouldings, a small nozzle (0.2 to 0.3 mm) and thin layers keep the ogee scroll crisp; sand along the length to erase layer lines before painting. • Scale the length to your project and butt several copies together, mitreing the ends for internal or external corners. • Print in PLA for indoor trim, or carve the same profile in softwood on a CNC using a matching round-over and cove bit if you want the real timber article. • Finish in gilt, cream or a woodgrain effect to match the piece it trims.
