Description
A long, scooping cove — a run of concave cornice that catches the light along its sweep and drops it into a soft shadow line. The profile is a smooth hollow channel that rises to a rounded lip at each end, the classic scotia/cove section used where a ceiling meets a wall or a plinth meets a floor. There is nothing fussy about it; its appeal is the single clean curve. Trim like this earns its keep by the metre. Run it as coving around a room, cap a plinth or pedestal, use it as a picture rail, or set it as the transition detail on a piece of furniture. At model scale it neatens the ceilings of dolls' houses and the cornices of miniature buildings; at full size it is a master for cast plaster or a directly printed moulding. Print notes: • Orient it with the concave face upward so the sweep prints cleanly and needs little support. • Print in matched lengths and butt them end to end; mitre the corners for a continuous run. • Sand along the direction of the curve, then fill and prime for a seamless painted finish. • For plaster casting, pull a silicone mould from a single smooth printed length.
