Creneaux Gauches

Creneaux gauches, left-hand crenellations. These are the toothed wall tops that make a castle look like a castle: alternating merlons and open embrasures, cut for the left-hand run of a curtain wall so the rhythm carries round a corner instead of breaking mid-pattern. Pieces like this belong to a larger build. On their own they are lengths of fortified wall; set alongside their opposite hand, a tower or a gatehouse, they become a keep for a display shelf, a diorama backdrop or a wargaming board. Anyone who has modelled a castle knows the battlements are the fiddly part, the run that has to repeat cleanly along a wall and still look like cut stone rather than a comb. It comes as a multi-part set rather than a single block, which is how modular fortification pieces are normally organised for builders working section by section.
