Description
A lamp shaped as a flame is a slightly absurd idea that turns out to work rather well — the eye already ties a lit object to fire, so form and function agree with each other. This one takes the whole blaze rather than a single tongue: a tapering, twisting body of overlapping licks narrowing towards a point, the silhouette of a fire caught in a photograph. The ridges are there to break light up rather than let it flood out flat, which is the difference between a shade that looks sculpted and one that looks like an upturned bucket. Switched off it still holds up as an object on a side table or a hall console. It comes as a multi-part kit, so there is a build to it as well as a print — better suited to someone after a small project than a one-press ornament. Good for a living-room corner or a shop window.
