Gargoyles Goliath

Leader of the Manhattan clan and the figure the whole nineties animated series orbits around, Goliath is built like nothing else on a collector's shelf: a towering winged creature with a barrel chest, clawed hands and feet, a heavy jutting brow and a mane of hair falling past the shoulders. The wings do most of the work visually, great membranous spans that wrap around him like a cloak when he settles on a ledge. It comes as a multi-part kit, which is what a figure with that wingspan tends to need. For painters it offers an unusual spread of surfaces, from heavy muscled anatomy to the weathered stone the clan turns to between sunrise and sunset. Fans of the show will want him as the centrepiece, but he also works simply as a gothic monster for a castle diorama, a bookshelf, or a display of animated-series characters with genuine presence.
