Description
Buckminster Fuller's favourite trick, borrowed for a light fitting. The shade is a subdivided sphere, its surface broken into a lattice of triangular facets that meet along strut lines, so the whole thing reads as engineered rather than moulded. Seen unlit it is a piece of geometry on the ceiling; the pattern of edges does the decorative work with no ornament added. Spherical shades sit well where a room needs a light source that looks the same from every angle, which makes this a natural over a dining table, in a stairwell, or hung in a pair down a hallway. It suits mid-century and modern interiors, and workshop spaces where exposed structure is the point. It arrives as a multi-part kit, which is the usual way a shade of this geometry is put together, and the segmented construction reads as part of the design rather than a compromise.
