Head Lamp

Sculptural lighting borrowed from the plaster-bust tradition: a human head rendered as a lamp, so what sits on the table reads first as an object and only afterwards as a light source. Unlit it works as figurative decoration; lit, the head becomes the glow itself and the character of the room shifts with it. The face-as-lamp idea has a long history in interiors, running from Art Deco bust lamps through the phrenology heads that turn up in barbershops and studios. It suits rooms already leaning towards the eccentric, and belongs on a sideboard, a studio desk or a shelf of curiosities rather than in the centre of a stripped-back living room. A single-file model, and one of the more arresting things to hand somebody who insists they have run out of shelf ideas.
