Herse

A grille of iron bars, spikes down, ready to slam shut. This model is a portcullis — the heavy latticed gate that drops to seal a castle gateway. It's a rectangular grid of square bars crossing at right angles, with the vertical bars extended below the frame into a row of sharpened spikes, exactly as a real portcullis was tipped so it could bite into the ground. The top edge steps down at the shoulders to tuck under an arch, and the whole thing has the flat, structural look of forged ironwork rather than decoration. It's built for tabletop gaming and dioramas: a working or static gate for 28–32 mm fantasy terrain, castle keeps, dungeon entrances and RPG set pieces. Drop it into a gatehouse and the scene sells itself. Print notes: • The thin bars are the whole point and also the weak point — resin (SLA/DLP) holds the lattice and spikes far more crisply than FDM. • On FDM, lay it flat and thicken the bars slightly in your slicer if they come out fragile; a 0.4 mm nozzle is right at its limit here. • Printed flat on the grid face it needs almost no supports; printed upright, brush-support the spike tips only. • Scale to your miniatures' door opening before slicing, then paint with a black base, heavy metal drybrush and a rust wash for convincing wrought iron.
