Iron Giant Gambody

Brad Bird's 1999 film gave animation one of its great gentle machines: a giant robot that falls out of the sky over 1950s Maine, eats scrap metal and then decides for itself what it is going to be. This is that character as a display build — the heavy rounded head, the deep-set eyes, the plated body of something built for war and choosing otherwise. Forty files makes it a serious undertaking rather than a casual one. Fans of the film almost always want the giant made large, and a large-format statue has to be broken up to be made at all, so the count is doing exactly what you would expect it to. One for collectors with the patience for a substantial multi-part kit, and one of the few fan pieces that earns a mantelpiece instead of a desk.
