Description

A wide-eyed retro robot that rolls straight out of an 1980s sci-fi matinee. This is a chunky, Funko-styled take on Johnny 5 — the boxy-headed machine with a rounded backpack, two enormous camera-lens eyes staring out from a hinged brow, and a single jointed laser-eyebrow flicking up between them. The oversized head sits on a compact torso, and instead of feet it runs on two segmented tank treads, giving the whole figure that lovable, top-heavy tilt. One articulated arm reaches out with a three-fingered claw, mid-gesture, as if it's about to say hello. It's built for fans of the film and for anyone who likes their desk guarded by a curious robot. It looks great on a shelf beside other vinyl-style collectibles, on a monitor stand, or as a printed gift for the sci-fi nerd in your life. Print notes • Resin (SLA) will hold the crisp lens rings and tread links far better than FDM at this scale. • Print the head and body as separate parts and pin them — the neck join is a natural seam and keeps supports off the face. • Expect supports under the extended arm, the claw fingers, and the overhang of the head; use light, easy-to-clean tips on the treads. • Around 90–120 mm tall is the sweet spot for detail versus print time. • Prime in grey, then paint the eyes glossy and dry-brush the treads with gunmetal and rust for that well-travelled look.
