Lampe Hibou Lamp

Hibou is French for owl, and that is what the whole lamp is built around: a rounded, upright bird with a broad head, two wide eye discs and a body that settles down into a perched base. The treatment is stylised rather than naturalistic, an owl read in a handful of strong curves instead of feather by feather. Owls have been a decorating staple since the 1970s and they still end up in the same places — a bedside table, a child's room, a hall shelf, the corner of a room that already has a proper overhead fitting. This is a mood-light shape rather than a reading lamp, drawn to make a friendly outline in a dim room. It is a sensible first lighting project for someone who has printed plenty of decor but never a lamp, and it makes a gift that lands well with people who would not otherwise ask for anything printed.
