Lamp Shade Vase

A shade drawn on the profile of a vase: a full rounded body that pulls in at the neck and opens out again at the lip. It goes over a bulb as a table or pendant shade, but the silhouette is doing double duty, because switched off it still reads as a vessel rather than as a piece of equipment parked on the sideboard. That ambiguity is really the point of the design. Standing empty on a shelf it holds its own as an object, dressed with dried stems, pampas or bleached grasses it passes entirely as a vase, and back over a lamp base it becomes lighting again without looking out of place. It suits a bedside table, a hallway console or the quiet corner of a living room, which is to say anywhere a bare bulb is currently doing the work and something with a bit of shape to it would do the job better.
